Murph

When I started Crossfit 12 years ago, I quickly discovered the Hero workouts. These are workouts that are named after people for various reasons. One of the is Murph. Named after Lt. Michael Murphy who lost his life in Afghanistan. He had a workout that he loved to do and that is the workout we now call Murph.

1 mile run

100 pull-ups

200 push-ups

300 squats

1 mile run

It takes 45ish minutes to complete (if you can run the mile) and it rather brutal. It is now traditionally done on Memorial Day. Well, that was yesterday and guess what my gym did? Murph! Now I haven't done Murph in 10-11 years. And I'm not in the shape I was then. So I chose to do what is called the broken version. It's not as far running and you break the movements up into 10 rounds. In 44 minutes I got through 5 rounds. I was not disappointed at all. I was happy I could do any of it and I look forward to getting stronger and being able to do more next year.

I've also been walking in the mornings. We have a 100 mile challenge going at school. Complete 100 miles over the summer and you can buy a t-shirt that we can wear on spirit days. It's silly but it's something that will keep me going through the summer and prevent me from being super lazy. I am 10 miles in and it's been 5 days. I'm good. I have 65 days to complete 90 miles. That works out to 1.4 miles per day. I totally got this. I'm walking Mavy every morning and then walking the canal. I will work up to walking further on the canal but for right now I'm just doing the Dorsey - McClintock section. Soon I'll be doing the McClintock to Rural section with is almost two miles in total.

I have been so very, very lazy these last few days. Still recovering from school I guess. We had some friends over on Saturday and that was nice. Sunday Hubby went to a party at a friends so I had a nice quiet day. Yesterday Hubby played golf so I had a nice quiet day. Today Hubby is playing golf, so I will have a nice quiet day. Ha, see a pattern forming. No, that's it for a few days. He'll be home and around and underfoot. Thankfully he'll be going back to work to get school ready for next year soon. He'll work half a day, which is good. Keeps him busy and gets him out of the house for a bit.

Okay, time to go walk. I have to go before it gets too hot.
