Back to my roots

I missed my blogaversry :( On September 23 I had been blogging for 4 years. I really thought it was in October that's why I went to check today. 4 years!!! Jeez, I have a lot to say :)

The reason I started this blog was as a weight loss blog. I had been reading some other blogs for a while and had decided to start my own. 4 years ago I was focused strictly on the scale. I just wanted the number to go down. I had a number of other issues I was dealing with at the same time, binge eating, a sugar addiction, etc.

Fast forward 4 years. I've conquered a lot of those demons, though they can still sneak in if I don't pay attention. I'm not so focused on the number on the scale, I want to be healthy not necessarily skinny. Also, I've come to terms with my body. I'm never going to be super skinny. I have a much thicker, more athletic body, but that's okay. I want to lower my fat percent and be strong and healthy.

So as of today I'm returning to my roots. This blog goes back to being a health and fitness blog. I'm going to focus on working out, eating right, getting strong and healthy. That will be the major thrust of this blog from now on. I'm sure I'll go back to marathons and triathlons, but for now it's all about finding some fat a new home. So there willbe no race reports (there haven't been in a while anyway) or training info or anything like that. It will be workouts and food and numbers, lots and lots of numbers.

So there it is. I'm nothing if not constantly evolving and changing. This is my latest incarnation. So it all begins today. I'm on a quest to lose 18lbs of fat by the first of the year. I'm going to do that with a combination of exercise and calorie restriction. My goal is to burn 2400 cals per day and consume 1650 cals. That creates a deficit of 750 cals per day which should result in a loss of 1.5 lbs of body fat per week. Now none of these numbers are crazy. 2400 is a very reasonable amount to burn, I average around 2100 cals when I don't work out. And 1650 is a very reasonable diet amount, not starving at all. So that's the plan. I'm going to post my workouts and my numbers everyday here to keep on track and see where I fall down. The hardest part of this is that I have to journal everyday. Some days I don't journal my food because I eat similar most days of the week. But now I have to write down everything that goes in my mouth.

Okay, let the fun begin.

Congratulations on four years! Lots of changes in that time...I'm feeling a bit of a renaissance coming on myself ;) and I am grateful for the wisdom of women like you, who have realistic and healthy goals.

Thanks so much, also, for the kind words after my beloved Howard passed....I know you are an animal lover, and it means so much to me that you took the time to reach out when I was so clearly in so much pain. You know? I still miss him.

It's great that you've learned to accept that your body will not be super skinny. Besides, why try to be a walking stick when you can look and feel healthy instead? Good luck on your goals, and have fun with your digital SLR! I must say I'm jealous because I have a panasonic Fz30, which is decent, but your SLR should allow you to take some great pics.
