I blew it.

I blew the posting everyday and I blew the 30 days of swimming. UGH!!!!!

First, yesterday was crazy busy. I had a ton of errands to run and by the time I got a chance to sit down at the computer I had nothing to say - too tired. But that also explains why I didn't swim. Who knew the 2 pools in my area don't open until 1 p.m. How ridiculous is that???

I headed out early to get my swim in before my errands started. The Y is closed. That's okay, there's a community pool. Ummm, yeah, not open either. WTF????? That's okay. I live on an island I can swim in the ocean. Ummmm, yeah, not so much. The rains the past week have turned much of the near shore area brown. As a water chemist I know what's in that brown water and it ain't going to be me!!! I could have traveled to the other side of the island and swam there but that would have made my day just that much longer. So I decided to bail on the swimming and try and get my errands done.

By the time errands were run and chores were done I was exhausted and had nothing intelligent to say. I put on IMFL and watched some of the bloggers finish (love being 5 hours behind :).

So today I have the same issues with the pool/ocean so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Again, I could drive to the other side of the island but driving 45 minutes for a 30 minute swim seems just plain silly. Maybe I'll push off the 30 days of swimming for just a little bit. I should work the logistics out first.

I have also had a very low grade headache for 2 days. It's not enough to be really painful just enough to be annoying. I hate taking any medicine (even aspirin) unless I'm absolutely in agony so I'll suffer through this.

Okay, that's all I have to say. Today is house cleaning - ugh. Luckily it's a very small house.

Oh yeah, I want to send a huge congratulations out to all the folks who did IMFL yesterday. I have now watched IM Kona and IM Florida. I will be doing an Ironman I just don't know when. But a huge congrats to all who toed the line yesterday. Getting there is well over 1/2 the battle.

I'm totally with you on the pool thing. Sunday morning would be a perfect pool day for me, but neither of the two gyms I'm a member of are open early enough!

I can understand about the Y. It has a Christian aspect and they probably want to give employees a chance to go to church. But the university pool? Come on!

Sorry about the headache. Any chance it's just tension? Good excuse for a massage, either way, don't you think?

Flo, You must have caught my nagging headache I had Friday. Sorry. Do you ever swim with a masters group?
We had a very windy ride Sat. Sustained 20mph. I actually thought of you. Is the wind there as bad as rumored? Year round or mostly winter?
I always get a little nostalgic when IMFL rolls around now. It brings back good memories. Flo you WILL do an ironman. How many 1/2's have you done? Don't be afraid of it. If you train smart and don't try and go too fast it will be a very enjoyable experience. My best advice I think I can give you is that to take some of the stress of training off you, try to cut your work hours back and take as much vacation time as possible about 10 weeks out. I had a lot of vacation time built up and basically just worked part time for 2 months. I was in heaven training 20-25 hrs/week.
Another thing I have in common with you is those blasted darn hills I'm so slow on. I honestly don't have a bad attitude or dislike them. I just get tired of getting dropped on them when I'm with others. That's why I chose IMFL to do. Plus it was close.

Its really hard making a daily commitment to do something, especially when you may not really want to but feel it necessary to improve at something. Just start over. I do all the time! Our Y is now open at 8 am on Sundays but you STILL can't get a lane. That's why I switched to a private club with a small pool, open 24 hrs. though and I never have to fight for a lane.

As for IM, I'm with you there. You can't help but get caught up in the whole production. It really is something I want to experience at least once in my lifetime.

P.S. Here's a thought for something to write about daily. Just jot down things of interest to you during the day, just a word or phrase, and elaborate on it the next day. I try to do that, but ouf course my posts are generally rambling about many things.
